Emma's reaction over the backlash JKR got over Dumbledore being gay.

HERTFORDSHIRE, England -- Actress Emma Watson is astounded by the furor over revelations that Harry Potter's mentor Professor Dumbledore is a homosexual.

"I couldn't believe what I was reading," Watson tells Sun Media about the negative backlash toward author J.K. Rowling. "This is the 21st century! I just could not believe the amount of fuss that was being made over Dumbledore being gay."

Watson spoke up on the set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Watson, who portrays Harry's friend Hermione, was pleased when Rowling first casually outed the Dumbledore character.

"I never actually thought about it before but, when she said it, I thought, 'Oh, yeah, that makes sense.' "

Now, however, 17-year-old Watson finds it "horrific" parents have proclaimed they will not let their children read the books or watch the movies.

"I find it so shocking ... Oh my goodness! Oh dear!"
