Preview of Tales of Beedle the Bard.
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-smartlist29nov29,0,7285254.photogallery
http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/books/beedle/
The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Wizarding classic, first came to Muggle readers’ attention in the book known as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now, thanks to Hermione Granger’s new translation from the ancient runes, we present this stunning edition with an introduction, notes, and illustrations by J. K. Rowling, and extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore. Never before have Muggles been privy to these richly imaginative tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and of course, “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” But not only are they the equal of fairy tales we now know and love, reading them gives new insight into the world of Harry Potter.
The stories are accompanied by delightful pen-and-ink illustrations by Ms. Rowling herself, featuring a still-life frontispiece for each one. Professor Dumbledore’s commentary—apparently written some eighteen months before his death—reveals not just his vast knowledge of Wizarding lore, but also more of his personal qualities: his sense of humor, his courage, his pride in his abilities, and his hard-won wisdom. Names familiar from the Harry Potter novels sprinkle the pages, including Aberforth Dumbledore, Lucius Malfoy and his forebears, and Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (or “Nearly Headless Nick”), as well as other professors at Hogwarts and the past owners of the Elder Wand. Dumbledore tells us of incidents unique to the Wizarding world, like hilariously troubled theatrical productions at Hogwarts or the dangers of having a “hairy heart.” But he also reveals aspects of the Wizarding world that his Muggle readers might find all too familiar, like censorship, intolerance, and questions about the deepest mysteries in life.

The bulk of this interview focuses in depth on Equus, with some lovely, reflective, and thought-provoking conversation, especially from Richard Griffiths who is also very complimentary about Dan, his young career, and how he has worked with some of the greats in the Harry Potter films, notably Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, Richard Harris and Dame Maggie Smith. JKR illustration of her favourite DH scene.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/nov/13/jk-rowling-harry-potter-birthday-book
I admit that, at first glance, the extract I've chosen for The Birthday Book might not seem particularly celebratory, given that it has for its subject my hero walking to what he believes will be certain death. But when Harry takes his last, long walk into the heart of the Dark Forest, he is choosing to accept a burden that fell on him when still a tiny child, in spite of the fact that he never sought the role for which he has been cast, never wanted the scar with which he has been marked. As his mentor, Albus Dumbledore, has tried to make clear to Harry, he could have refused to follow the path marked out for him. In spite of the weight of opinion and expectation that singles him out as the "Chosen One", it is Harry's own will that takes him into the Forest to meet Voldemort, prepared to suffer the fate that he escaped sixteen years before.
The destinies of wizards and princes might seem more certain than those carved out for the rest of us, yet we all have to choose the manner in which we meet life: whether to live up (or down) to the expectations placed upon us; whether to act selfishly, or for the common good; whether to steer the course of our lives ourselves, or to allow ourselves to be buffeted around by chance and circumstance. Birthdays are often moments for reflection, moments when we pause, look around, and take stock of where we are; children gleefully contemplate how far they have come, whereas adults look forwards into the trees, wondering how much further they have to go. This extract from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is my favourite part of the seventh book; it might even be my favourite part of the entire series, and in it, Harry demonstrates his truly heroic nature, because he overcomes his own terror to protect the people he loves from death, and the whole of his society from tyranny.
editor's note:I so agree with Rowling about harry's heroic acts and how he chose his own destiny though he could avoid facing it.

Emma and her fantasies-for Dec Vogue....
British Vogue - December 'Fantasy' edition. (hhahahahhahahahhaha)
There's nothing really to scan. It's just a picture of her from Paris Fashion Week at Chanel.
Who? Queen Cleopatra, Lord Byron, Coco Chanel, Shakespeare, William Blake, Bernardo Bertolucci, Alfred Hitchcock, Vivienne Westwood, Frida Kahlo, Joni Mitchell, Anita Roddik, Napoleon, Mahatma Ghandi and Elton John.
Where? Lascaux Cave in France.
Hot Topics? Cave Paintings! I visited these caves a few summers ago, and their interiors are covered in drawings. It has a magical setting and atmosphere.
What would everyone be wearing? Something warm - big cashmere scarves with long capes over slinky evening dresses for the women; smoking jackets for the men.
What would you dine on? Chocolate fondue, cheese, risotto, gazpacho, tea and toast, creme brulee, bacon butties, baked beans on toast, Fruit Roll-Ups, Haribo sweets, flying saucers, pink champagne, mojitos and Marks and Spencer caramel shortcakes.
Who would you sit beside? Lord Byron.
Biggest Flirt? Lord Byron. Hopefully.

Brand new Emma ems from Nov 5th.
Travelling, Uni and the Deathly Hallows
Hello everyone, sorry it has been so long since I last wrote. Where to start!! Hmm... So I have been travelling a lot as you have seen, which has been wonderful. Paris fashion week was great fun and it was nice to see family members and friends while I was there. I'm currently trying to apply for uni, so reading lots and lots at home and starting to get very excited about the release of The Tale of Despereaux which is coming up in December. ALTHOUGH... I keep getting distracted as I have started re reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in preparation for the start of filming in February and can't put it down. Reading it for a second time has made it no less addictive. Hope things are good, All my love Emma x

HHR moments in DH.Comment.
"I tried very hard to soften it, I suppose," Jo said. "Just because someone had a view on Harry/Hermione didn't mean they weren't genuine, or that they were necessarily misguided. In fact, I will say this, Steve Kloves who has been the script writer [on the Potter films], who is enormously insightful on the series and a very good friend, after he read book seven he said to me, 'You, know, I thought something was going to happen between Harry and Hermione, and I didn't know whether I wanted it or not.'
"I had always planned that Harry's true soul mate, which I stand by, is Ginny, and that Ron and Hermione have this combative but mutual attraction. They will always bicker, there will always be rough edges there, but they are pulled together, each has something the other needs."
I stared at her, sensing she wasn't finished, and a sense of foreboding crept in around the edges.
"[Kloves] felt a certain pulll between them at that point. And I think he's right. There are moments when [Harry and Hermione] touch, which are charged moments. One when she touches his hair as he sits on the hiltop reading about Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and [two] the moment when they walk out of the graveyard with their arms around each other."
I was holding my breath at this point. She wasn't done.
"Now the fact is that Hermione shares moments with Harry that Ron will never be able to participate in. He walked out. She shared something very instense with Harry.
"So I think it could have gone that way."

Dan's new radio interview.
http://wor710.com/episode_download.php?contentType=36&contentId=3039108
Dan speaks about how much better the Equus production on Broadway is this year than the West End shows; how rarely he and Richard Griffiths worked together on the Harry Potter set compared to Equus; and his character Alan Strang and the relationship he has with his parents and horses.
He mentions that after seeing a pantomime production of Aladdin at the age of five he wanted to be an actor, which he told his mother (who immediately said "no, you don't"). When being cast for Harry Potter, Dan said that he first read lines two months before he was cast; he also expressed his and everyone else's surprise at the film series' success.
Dan praises the American audience for their reaction and understanding of the play compared to the British viewers. In regards to the Equus on-stage seats, Dan states that he doesn't acknowledge them during the play as they're elevated twelve feet high, and therefore aren't a distraction for him.
On Deathly Hallows, Dan says that the 14-month shoot begins February 2009 and ends around April/May 2010, and that it will have more on-location filming than the previous six movies.
