Casting for HP theme park..

new report today stating auditions are now, or will soon be, underway for actors to portray an assortment of magic related people, including characters from the Harry Potter novels. Word is that they “are casting all the major parts for the characters in the books,” in addition to others such as “a wand instructor for the kids. They basically show kids how to do wand magic tricks.” Others “will be traveling actors through the park playing the parts of wizards that come together in duels. They have specific spots in the park that this happens for special effects. For example, one wizard throws a spell at the other, the other reacts, does stunts and the places around, or behind them, bursts into flames or there is an explosion.”

Finally, in one very cool piece of news, reportedly “there is going to be a ride through Gringotts that is based on the rails through the bank. There will be a stage show that comes from Goblet of Fire of the scene in the grave yard where Harry fights Voldemort.”

As fantastic as this sounds, please keep this in the rumor category for now, until we can obtain further information on this. As announced previously, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is under construction at Universal Orlando, Florida, with the latest report stating a December, 2009 opening is planned.

Harry Potter novels, Bloomsbury, has seen an increase in their annual profits for 2007, thanks in part to the publication of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” this past July. Noting the “Potter effect,” the company’s CEO Nigel Newton is expected to announce his company profited an estimated £17 million (nearly $34 million) in 2007. This figure is up from their 2006 profits which were £5.2 million ($10 million). The article goes on to relate Bloomsbury’s thought that the effects from the previous Potter sales will be felt in years to come, as the company uses extra capital amassed to fund the promotion of new novels and other ventures.

JKR presents literary award to prisoners..

J.K. Rowling recently presented reading awards to inmates at a prison in Edinburgh, Scotland. ITN is reporting today that Jo presented these awards on behalf of the Shannon Trust charity, which according to their website is “devoted to the development of literacy in our prisons through peer to peer mentoring. The charity encourages and helps prisons to develop teams of inmates, who run daily one-on-one lessons for illiterate fellow prisoners.”

After presenting these awards, the Harry Potter author was quoted as saying: “It was a very positive experience. Learning to read represents a significant turning point in anyone’s life, and may be the one thing that makes a difference to help people in prison turn their lives around.” David Ahern from the trust said: “We were delighted that JK Rowling was able to visit. She gave the prisoners a real boost.”

Emma Watson has discovered fishing, according to the Telegraph. Her father, Chris first introduced her and it has become one of her passions.

"You can always expect a fresh trout or salmon when you go round to dinner with her these days," one of her friends tells the Telegraph, "She finds it a very relaxing hobby, but it also appeals to the cunning side of her nature."

Emma is now making her own flies and will be donating a Grey Wulff, a bushy, high-floating fly to raise money for The Wild Trout Trust.

The fly will be sold on eBay along with 233 other Lots. It will be sold together with a signed card, framed by Paul Little and accompanied by a letter of authentication.

Christie’s International in London, England sold a number of Harry Potter novels at auction today, including a number rare or signed editions. Bloomberg is reporting, the complete lot of 20 books pulled in a total of 36,560 pounds ($72,565) with fees for the auction house. According to the article, early sales estimates had the lot selling for 20,000 pounds without fees. A first edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” without its dust jacket and containing “slip of paper bearing Rowling’s signature,” was part of the auction, and ultimately sold for 4,000 pounds ($8,000). Christie’s noted this edition was “exceptionally rare” as only approximately 500 copies were printed, 300 of which went to libraries. Speaking for Christie’s, Crispin Jackson went on to note the increased value books at auction which contain an authors signature, saying: It increases the price by at least five times.” Other Harry Potter books sold today include a boxed set of five deluxe editions which sold for 5,000 pounds ($10,000).

The Guardian reported that U.K cinema profits from 2007 went up 7.7%. Which is a record £904.9 million. According to The Guardian this is due to films like 'Harry Potter' and the bad weather!

The article said:
A large chunk of those takings were in the summer, with July the best month on record for cinemagoing in four decades.

The FDA attributes the success to a strong line-up of films, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The casting of Jim Broadbent took many of the WB workers by surprise - they had been told Bob Hoskins was getting the role. The only thing I can think of is that Heyman and Yates changed their minds at the very last minute. I would also like to confirm however that Katie Bell has been cut from HBP and that Cho Chang will be the victim of the necklace...My uncle WILL NOT comment on anything to do with DVD releases, deleted scenes ETC. Can the readers please focus their Qs on the films - thank you.

Have you got anything you’re most looking forward to putting on film? The final battle, maybe?
Well, the final battle, but there’s so much. I love the character stuff. I love the resolution of Dumbledore and Snape. I love the multiple Harries at the beginning. I love the scene of Hermione trapped at the Malfoys’. I love Harry and Hermione in the forest. I think there’s so much, it’s such a rich fabric. What we’ve done now, which I think is really exciting, is that we’ve found thematic centres for each of the films. That gives the film heart. I think it’s pretty great that David Yates has crystalised it and…it’s early days still, so I’m not going to say too much. But I’m just thrilled that David Yates decided to come back, because he’s really found a new spirit for the sixth film and as we talk about seven, it’s very different as well. I think it’s going to be good.
